Robert W. Train works for the Department of Modern Languages & Literatures as a Professor of Spanish.  He currently serves in the role of Faculty Co-Chair for Alianza for Equity.

Education:
  • PhD in Romance Philology, University of California, Berkeley;
  • Single Subject Teaching Credential (Spanish, French), California State University, East Bay;
  • BA in French, University of California, Berkeley.
How I Can Help:
I am dedicated to working with students, staff, faculty, administrators and community partners to provide high quality and meaningful public education to all our students, and to create a family-community-school-university-career pipeline for future Latinx professionals.
 
  • Teaching: I strive to provide a critically humanistic and culturally responsive undergraduate and professional education, particularly for Latinx students. I created and teach Spanish heritage language courses, as well as undergraduate courses on bilingualism, (post)colonial language history and politics, and Spanish language education in California.
  • Academic Advising: for Spanish majors/minor, Linguistics minor, and PUERTA.
  • Mentorship: I advise individual students and clubs (current Faculty Advisor for Nu Alpha Kappa/NAK) to support their sense of belonging and academic success at SSU.
  • Support for DREAMERs: I pledge my unconditional academic and professional support for DREAMer students.
  • International Education: Please come talk to me if you are considering studying abroad in México, Spain or Chile with CSU-International Programs.
  • Research: I am happy to consult and/or partner with students engaged in research projects in the humanities, social sciences, sciences involving Spanish speakers.
  • Teacher Education: If you are a considering a career in teaching, I will work with you to obtain a degree in Spanish and/or in another program in preparation for a Single or Multiple Subject teaching credential with bilingual authorization.
